Cookie Election 2012

Our class chose "candidates" for our favorite cookie.
We used an affinity diagram to group our candidates.

Our Cookie Candidates....

After our primary election we had to have a run-off election to determine our
2nd candidate.  We will be voting on Tuesday to see if our favorite cookie is
M&M or Chocolate Chip. That will be a tough decision!

Main Idea and Details

We read a book about Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) and then talked about Main Idea and Details. We made a poster to show the main idea and
listed the important details. We learned that you have to decide what is most important and not important. Then each student made their own Johnny Appleseed and wrote the main idea and one or two details.

Informational Text

We have been looking at different examples of informational text (non-fiction) and learning about the different text features.  The kids made apple diagrams and then labeled each part.

Brain Breaks

We have been incorporating brain breaks into our day to keep our
brains awake and ready to learn!
Have your child teach you the ones they know...

Living and Non-living

The class has been learning the difference between living and non-living. We learned that living things have certain things in common....

2. Moves
3. Grows and changes
4. Make more like itself
We went outside and observed and collected data on some living and non-living things.

We Are Scientists!

We have been learning about what it means to be a scientist.  We learned that scientists predict, collect data, observe, experiment, ask questions, and many other things. They realized that they are scientists too!
I'm a scientist because I wonder....
A scientist is a person who.....
I'm a scientist because I collect data.
I'm a scientist because I ask questions.
I'm a scientist because I think and think.
